We Played Ball.
And Downed the Michigan City Giants. Twelve innings, that is what it took to decide last Friday’s game. This time the oolts were victorious and our ignominious defeat of the day before avenged. The inclement weather of yesterday kept many from seeing as good a game of ball as has been played here this year. This time the order was reversed, and Michigan City came to bat with Harlon their wordy catcher at the plate. He hit one to Burton who failed to get it. Fisher flew out to Benham, Irwin repeated Harlon’s trick and the next two flew out for us. Joe hit to short, who overthrew first and Joe took second, Bonham scored Joe with a hit over second. Nairn flew out to left, Miller never got to first. Beville got hit, but ere another score could be gotten in Burton struck three times and was out. In the second and third innings both sides went out without scoring. Iu the fourth they got two runs. In the fifth our boys hit Buckley so hard they had to lay him on the bench, and Amos Damouth, who pitched the day before finished the inning. Altogether they only made 5 runs, In the sixth neither side scored. In the seventh M. C. ran in four, with some pretty hits into the field. That tied the score, and from then on everybody played fast ball, scarcely a man on either side getting to first until in the twelfth, by a hit from Nairn through third base, a long hit into center by Miller and a star hit by Beville into left, John Nairn came home with the winning run, and the great game was over. Beville is the kind of a ball player to tie to. He is the best all-around player ever seen on the ground here. He pitches a good game, catches a better one and meets the ball fair and square, being one of the heaviest hitters. The boys redeemed themselves Friday. There were very few errors marked up. Everyone played good ball. Bonham played a good game. Burton was good after he got warmed up. Joe put up a superior game. Dad Bowen was right in line at first. Nairn held the plate down in fine shape, and the fielders Miller, Hawkins and Brinley were almost perfect. In short, the team played ball Friday and we are proud of them.
