Raised Money by Raising Money.
Saturday evening a stranger took a beer at Strick’s and tendered a $lO bill, in payment. The bill didn’t look right to Billy Fry, the bar-keeper, and he passed it‘to Cooney Kellner, and' Cooney handed it on to Mr. Strickfaden, both of whom saw it was a bad bill. The stranger stepped out during the inspection of the bill but soon came back and said that if there was any question about the bill, he would take it back, as he knew the man he got it from, at Lafayette. Instead of agreeing to this suggestion, Mr. Strickfaden sent for Police Childers. In the meantime the stranger started to make off, by way of the back door and alley, but C Vick overhauled him and brought him back. Childers soon arrived and put the man under arrest. Sunday he was examined before Squire Burnham, who bound him over under S3OO bail. Monday morning three more $lO bills were found by Vance Collins in the rear of Warner & Collins’ implement store, which adjoins the saloon. These three bills and the one offered Saturday night, were all one dollar bills, which by pasting on some figures and letters, and writing some others, were made to look like tens. The work was very clumsily done, but yet some of the best ones might easily be passed on most anybody, during a rush of business. Of course the stranger threw these bills down where thev were found, after a question raised as to the other one. The stranger gave his naifie as Frank Bulger. It is said that his father worked here with a team on the court house foundations, and that the young man himself worked here some, also. His father is now said to be at Monticello. The young man is probably about 25 to 30 year old. We wish to inform the public that we are better than ever prepared to grind their wheat, corn and feed. We do a general custom business, take wheat on deposit, grind rye flour and buckwheat in season and pay the highest market pries for good wheat. w4t Stoner Day Milling Co.
