Rensselaer Semi-Weekly Republican, Volume 19, Number 100, Rensselaer, Jasper County, 23 August 1898 — The Park is Played Out. [ARTICLE]
The Park is Played Out.
The prospect for a fine pleasure park, with boating and fishing grounds, and assembly facilities, has gone glimmering. Mr. Wallick, the projector, made an offer to the various owners for the land required, of a price which he considered very liberal, and in excess of what he considered it worth, for any other purposes. But the owners held it at much higher prices, and therefore Mr. Wallick states that he has given up the project for good. It is a result which the people of Rensselaer may well regret, for Mr. Wallick, if he had bought the land at what he thought a reasonable price, was prepared to push his project through at once, and to have given Rensselaer one of the most attractive parks in the state. It looks like the death of the enterprise would be a disappointment to the property owners also, for such an improvement could not have failed to greatly enhance the value of their remaining land.
