CONDITION OF THE CROPS.
August Report of the Statistician of the Agricultural Department, The august report of the statistician of the Deimrtment of Agriculture shows the following average conditions on Aug. 1; Corn, 87; sprlug rye, 93.7; barley, 79.3; Irish potatoes, 83.9; spring wbeut, 96.5; oats, 84.2; buckwheat, 87.2. The condition of corn la 3T5 points lower thun Inst month, 2.8 points higher than Aug. 1, 1897, 9 points lower than Aug. 1, 1890. and 0 points below the August average for the last ten years. The principal State averages are as follows: Ohio, 89; Indiana, 86; Illinois, 72; lotyu, 92; Missouri, 86; Kansas, 69. nnd Nebraska, 85. The condition of spring wheat Is 1.5 poluts higher than lust month, 9.8 points above the average Aug. 1, 1897; 17.6 points above thut for Aug. 1, 1896, and 13.5 points above the August average for the last ten years. The conditions in the principal States are as follows: Minnesota, 101; North Dakota, 95; South Dakota, 92; Nebraska, 97; lowa, 94.
