Five More Arc Lights.
The Other City Council Doings. The City Council, at their regular meeting Monday night, ordered five more arc lights put in. They are located at the following points. At the intersection of Forest and Vine streets, which will be near Coen <& Brady’s grain office. One at Scott and Division streets, near Lewis’ cigar factory. One at the junction of Clark, Van Rensselaer and Milroy streets. One at Plum and Franklin, at the northeast corner of Weston park. One at Franklin and Elm. The street committee was authorized to construct two 30 inch sewer pipe culverts, on Vine street, in Austin & Paxton’s addition. A sidewalk, bridge over Makernself ditch is ordered, on Main street, near Nelse Randle’s place. The petition of Robt. Michaels for a sewer on Vine street, in A. & P. addition w as granted. The ordinance defining the duties of the fire warden was passed. The warden must inspect all elevators and flour mills and other extra hazards once a week. Must also keep close watch for inflamable rubbish, every place, and for foul chimneys. Property owners who fail to clean up rubbish and chimheys where ordered, are to be fined from $1 to $25. A curfew ordinance was introduced. It affects children under 16 years, but the hours for ringing the bell have not been decided upon. Tbe ordinance makes it the special duty of tbe Marshal and his deputies to strictly enforce its provisions. The smallest penalty for violating the ordinance is sl, the maximum fine has not been decided Upon. The contract with John Jessen for a sewer on Van Rensselaer street, north of the waterworks, was approved. So also the contract for a jsewer with B. Forsythe. The Nowels-Sayler Lumber contract was awarded the coal contract, for one year. The contract with the Monon R. R. company for water and lights, for ten years, at $350 per year, was approved.
