That Same Old Game.
Henry A. Stoner, a wealthy farmer of Porter county, was swindled out of a large sum of money, by a game that was so old that it was out of date in the days of the patriarchs, else‘Jacob would have used it when he buncoed Esau. It was the same old scheme of a man coming to buy a farm and starting out to look at the land, with the owner, and then accidently’ meeting a stranger, with whom they played three card monte. The would-be land buyer and Stoner won several thousand dollars of the stranger, of course, but the stranger refused to pay until Stoner "proved that he could have paid if he had lost,” by going back to town and drawing a large sum from the bank, and taking it out to show to the stranger. Of course the two confederates, changed the boxes or some other such trick on Stoner, and got away with Ja large sum of his money; just as will always be done to the end of time, with rich mpn who are too poor to take the newspapers, or too smart to believe what they read in them. — ■ —II - Seed Buckwheat for sale.
