Rensselaer Semi-Weekly Republican, Volume 19, Number 95, Rensselaer, Jasper County, 5 August 1898 — Admiral Dewey a Republican. [ARTICLE]

Admiral Dewey a Republican.

During the recent Democratic congressional convention at Frankfort, Samuel Ralston, the Democratic nominee for Secretary of State, paid a glowing tribute to Admiral Dewey, “the Democrat who had won immortal glory at Manila.” Soon after the convention Congressman Landis, of Delphi, addressed a letter to Congressman H. H. Powers, of Vermont, a life-long acquaintance of the admiral, who also communicated with his brother, Charles Dewey, of Montpelier, Vt., and Congressman Landis has received reply that Admiral Dewey is a stanch Republican, and has been so ever since he was twenty-one years old. He is also an Episcopalian in religious belief. Congressman Powers says that the fact that Admiral Dewey is a Republican is well known by every Democrat in Vermont, and will not be disputed by them.
