Electric Light in the Arctic.

Electricity played an important part In the Arctic voyage of the Fram, Dr. Nunsen’s stanch vessel. The electric lights were daily used on board, uncording to the Elektrotekuisk Tedsskrift of Christiania, until May, is'JS. when the w earing out of the gearing and the fact that portions of the apparatus were needed for making snowshoes made it necessary to dispense with the use of the dynamo, which was worked by n windmill. Though at times the accumulators froze solidly, yet the acid blended lee proved a tine electrolyte. Electricity, too. fired the mine shots which freed the Fram from the ice floes.
