Arthur Lakin Heard From.
J. S. Lakin, west of town, received a letter Tuesday from his son, Arthur S. Lakin, in the 4th U. S. regulars, being the first word he has received from him since he was in the fights at Santiago, and which he passed through without injury. He throws a new light on 4he reasons for the American victories there, as expressed by a Spanish prisoner. The prisoner stated as the reason why the Yankees cleaned out the Spaniards was that the Spaniards would fire and then run, but the Yankees would fire and then push ahead the faster. A part of the letter was written July 6th, which was some days before the Spaniards surrendered.
