A Cruel Father Fined
Thursday evening August Geopp a wealthy farmer living near Pleasant Grove, in Barkley Tp., was tried before Squire Burnham, on the charge of cruelly whipping his 13 year old daughter. The little girl’s mother died some months ago, and the little girl assists her aged grandmother who acts as her father’s housekeeper. The neighbors have known for some time shat he whipped the child cruelly, and on Tuesday, July sth, after he had whipped her with a heavy strap, leaving as evidence a great welt on her face, they had him arrested. At the irial he had the nerve to swear that he had not whipped her at all, but the evidence against him was conclusive, and the Squire fined him $5 and costs, amounting in all to $26.00; and which he paid.
