Peaceful But Glorious.
“Peace bath her victories, no less renowned than war.” The taking of Hawaii, consummated by the vote in the Senate Wednesday afternoon, was a victory of peace. In taking them, we have only taken what came to us freely and peacably. No brave Americans have lost life or limb in their acquisition; yet in the results which will proceed from their possession: in the increased respect which their ownership will give among the nations of the earth; in our greater influence fgp'civilization; in our greater power to extend the principles of liberty and enlightment throughout the world; our vastly increased abilty to command peace with honor; in the impetus which it will give to the extension of otar commerce, the acquistion of th£se faithful, friendly glorious little islands in the center of the mighty western sea, will yet rank as one of the greatest American victories, of this year of glorious victories.
