The Sentiment of True Patriots.
Chicago Inter Ocean. The first anniversary of the Nation’s birth was celebrated on the east bank of the Mississippi river by the successful termination of one of the most important military expeditions of all history. Not a gun was fired, not a drop of blood spilt. Its importance was wholly due to the vast area which it added to the domain of the United States. There could be no more fitting and sublime observance of the same anniversary this year than the formal annexation of Hawaii and the unfurling of the American fiag over the cities of Manila and Santiago de Cuba.
