Rensselaer Semi-Weekly Republican, Volume 19, Number 83, Rensselaer, Jasper County, 24 June 1898 — The Base Ball Grand Stand. [ARTICLE]
The Base Ball Grand Stand.
The base ball grounds across the river, now named Riverside Park, has been a very busy place for the last few days, a great rush being required to complete the grand stand in time for the Rensselaer vs Brook game of base ball, for Thursday afternoon. Eight carpenters have been sawing and hammering for dear life, to get the work done by noon that day. The grand stand is a large and well built structure, capable of comfortably seating 300 people, and 400 with a little crowding. It is built with a special view to strength and security. There were 12 thousand feet of lumber used in the grand stand and 0 thousand in the fence.
