From the Boys in Camp.
Camp Mount, Indianapolis, Ind. Co. I Ist Reg. has at last past the slaughtering block. Fifteen of our men including our Ist and sth sergeants were compelled to go home this morning with a sad farewell to the boys, most of whom were crying. Captain Starr took it to heart as bad as any one of us. As they started on their march home the scene became one that I can never forget. Strong men crying like they were losing all their friends on earth. Men whom from four to five years acquaintance I have never seen shed a tear, crying worse than the rest. Bates and I had no trouble in passing the examination. Both of us filling all of the requirements. The last three days has been hard ones for the boys and we have had but little sleep and that has been under wet blankets with the rain coming in at all sides. You may expect to hear from us in some other place before long We expect to move early next week or at least not later than two weeks. It is not known whether we will get to come home before we go or not. But expect to be home two
or three days.
