Don Carlos has summoned all the American Carlists to join him in Europe. Gen. Charles Fitz Simons, of Chicago, will be appointed a brigadier general by the president. The National Association of Chiefs of Police of the United States and Canada la in session at Milwaukee, Wls. Spain is said to have negotiated a loan of 100,000,000 pesetas. A well-known banking house is said to have come to the rescue. The great council of the Order of Red Men of Illinois, in session at Springfield, elected P. J. Hanswirth, of Chicago, great prophet. James H. Mead, one of the oldest theatrical managers in America, died suddenly Tuesday at his home in New York city. He was 68 years old. A special dispatch from Madrid says a mob burned a huge grain warehouse at Longronok, Wednesday morning. The structure is reported to be a total loss. The ambulance ship Solace, having on board four surgeons, eight nurses, the finest surgical appliances and accommodations for 100 wounded, has arrived at Key West from Hampton Roads. Maj. Gen. Joseph R. Wheeler arrived at Chattanooga, Tenn., Wednesday morning, and reported to Gen. Brooke. He will remain at Chickamauga and assist in organizing the volunteers as they arrive. William A. Aubrey de Vere Beauclerk, tenth duke of St. Albans, grand falconer of England by inheritance and captain of her majesty’s yeomen of the guard, died Tuesday in London. He was born in 1840. Dr. S. K. Blvlngs, who last March killed T. J. Trimmier, committed suicide in his cell at the jail at Spartansburg, S. C. Bivings’ trial ended Tuesday night when he was convicted of murder with a recommendation to mercy, which meant life imprisonment. At Indiana, Pa., in an attempt to arrest Joseph Bennett, Chief of Police Cunningham was shot and killed. Bennett was intoxicated, and was riding a bicycle and firing his revolver at everyone he met. One shot struck a young lady named Smith, but she was not seriously injiii'ed. Senator Sewell has decided to refuse the commission of major general tendered him by the president. This conclusion was reached after receiving a verbal opinion from Attorney-General Griggs that it was unconstitutional to hold a seat In the senate and a commission in the army at the same time.
