Not Offered a Commission.
New York, May 0. Commissioner George R. Hluuchard, of the Joint Traffic association, took occasion Thursday to deny the truth of the reports from Washington that President McKinley had slated him for a brigadier general’s commission, with full charge of the transportation of troops of the United States in the advance on Cuba. Mr. Blanchard said that he had, from purely patriotic motives, offered his services to the government. His offer has been accepted, and he is now cooperating with the war department. He does not expect a commission in the army, and has no idea tlint lie will receive one.
