succeed Judge Day as assistant secretary of state. Canton, 0., April 26. —William R. Day came to Canton Monday as assistant secretary of Btate. He Is now secretary of state, by action of the president, and will accept the place tendered him. Judge Day has yielded to the personal solicitation of the president in the matter and has oonsented to be secretary only because of the circumstances surrounding the administration at this time.
