Two Companies Organized.
Rensselaer Now On A War Footing. Two military companies were organized here Tuesday evening. The older men's company met at 5 o’clock, in the G. A. R. hall in the court house. Organization was effected by electing J. M. Wasson captain, David H. Yeoman Lieutenant and James A. Burnham drill master. A second meeting will be held Friday evening for further organization and drill. Itis not the purpose of this company to try to get into the war at this time, but to get the members thoroughly drilled and ready for offering their servico at any future time. 9~r • ' THE YOUNG MEN’S COMPANY The young men’s company met at the city hall at 7:30 P. M. Charles 0. Warner was elected captain and empowered to appoint two assistant drill masters, and he appointed J. J. Hunt and Ernest Middleton. It was the hope of this company to get accepted into the service at once, in whole or in part, under the first call, but there is now thought to be little if any prospect for that, as the number of companies already fully organized in the state and offered to the governors far more than fill the state’s quota. The company drilled for an hour and a half after the organization was perfected. Those who wish can join this company for drill purposes alone, and without signing the paper offering services at once. The proviso confining membership to unmarried men is nlso relaxed for those who wish to join for drill purposes only.
