Rensselaer Semi-Weekly Republican, Volume 19, Number 59, Rensselaer, Jasper County, 29 March 1898 — The Tower is Finished. [ARTICLE]

The Tower is Finished.

The largo iron ornamental top piece was placed on the water tower late yesterday afternoon. The piece is pierced for a flagstaff and a flag now floats therefrom. The tower was to hold 100,000 gallons, according to the contract, but is probably exceeds that to some extent. Every gallon of this 100,000 is 100 feet or more in air and thus available for use, at any time, and under strong pressure. This elevated tarik method is the right way to secure useful results from all the water they contain. As to the arohtictural appearance of the structure, opinons differ greatly, but the prevailing opinion is that towers which are built from the ground up are rather better in appearance. In any case, however, our tower now that it is completed, looks much better than many people thought it would while in process of construction.
