No Truth in The Report

That Another Warship Was Blown Up At Havana. Saturday’s Daily: Great excitement was produced here this noon by the report, which came over the wires, that the cruiser Montgomery had been blown up in Havana harbor.- The Montgomery being the vessel which has just been sent there to replace the Maine. The report came from Chicago, and it is no doubt that it had reached that city and that extra papers had been published on the strength of it. The Republican has investigated the report, and at 2:30 this afternoon received reliable word from Lafayette, by telephone, that the afternoon’s Associated Prose dispatches, declare that there is no truth in the report, and that it was a canard probably started for stock-jobbing purposes, in New York.
