The Spanish Situation.
The Spanish situation grows more and more ominous, every day. No one any longer pretends to believe in the theory of accidental explosion of the Maine, wbile it is generally believed that the Spanish government will not admit the responsibility of itself or its subjects to the extent of making reparation for the vessel’s destruction. That both nations are making most vigorous preparations for war is also an indisputable fact. Spain has asked for the recall of Consul General Lee, and also that the supplies for the relief of the starving Cubans be not sent in a U. S. war vessel. Both requests have been refused, and further trouble is likely to grow out of the incidents.--Lastly, the public sentiment in favor of this country intervening to put a stop to the Cuban war is every day growing more irresistible. More than over before, there is a strong prospect for war.
