night the Council met in regular semi-monthly session. Lyman Zea was given a permit to move the office building in the public square to his lots north of the railroad. • A. Leopold was given permission to pile building inaterial in Washt6n street, in frqut of his old stone store building, for sixty days. The city engineer filed a report showing estimated cost of cutting out a channel in Makemself ditch from Main street to Van Rensselaer,' feet deep. For such a channel 3 feet wide, the estimated cost is $305. For foot wide channel, the estimate is, $254. The assessments on Vine street having all been paid, except a few very small ones, the city engineer was directed to open the extension of the street through to Austin & Paxton’s Addition. Vine is the first street south of the railroad. It runs east and west and when the extension is opened will be a mile and a quarter in length. The county commissioners want to tap the water mains for the court house this week. Permission will be obtained of the contractors ns the city is not yet in possession of the waterworks. The committee appointed to prepare an electric light schedule ordinance filed a report. The substance of it is given elsewhere. Quite a large number of claims were allowed.. '
