McCOYSBURG, Rev. Shepherd is still holding meetings with good success. Increasing interest is manifested each night. Fred Arnott has quit working for Mr. McDonald and will begin working for Simon Kenton near Surrey, the first of March. Jack Goodyear commenced, work for Mr. Pool near here, last Monday morning. ■ ; The mail got left last Monday afternoon, as the train went through ‘‘like lightening,” as the P. M. expressed it. A party was given to Miss Spencer last Monday night, at Mr. Davis’ home southwest of here. Mr. Maxwell’s moved last Tuesday and the place will soon be occupied Boon by Mr. Gunyon, of Clinton county. A certain candidate for nomination left a box of cigars at the store and a cordial invitation is extended by Mr. Gwin to all the “boys” to come in and get a smoke. Last Tuesday, Mr. Catherwood’s moved down near Brookston, on a farm. V— ' ... Washington’s birthday was observed by the school. A programme and very interesting talk, by Rev. Shepherd, were rendered in honor of “The Father of Our Country.” A. C. Robinson of Monon was here Tuesday and told of a trip to Cincinnati, recently, where he saw John L. Sullivan, the ex-champion prize fighter. Bro. Robinson is ,a large man but he declares he would not like to fight “John L.” after all, Cbas. Frazier, of Remington was in town Wednesday. Mrs. Jno. Randle and son Curt went to Monon, last Tuesday, to see a Mrs. (Randle) Hayes, who is near death’s door, being an unfortunate victim of consumption. Chas. Bussell got his head hurt by coming in contact with a hatchet A certain young man in Marion Tp., gave his teacher a whipping but by foul means.
