Secretary of State W. D- Owen yesterday received a letter from Knirnan, Ind., which indicates t hat the spark of patriotic fire has found lodgment there. John O’Connor is the author of the letter. He says: “While my heart aches with grief ut the loss of our noble ship Maine, with her 253 brave sailors, by Spanish treachery, I hereby tender my services to the Governor of Indiana, and I stand ready in case of a declaration of war. thunk God. to help revenge the outrage committed. I have served in the United States navy and would be glad to represent the grent State of Indiana in Cuban wators.”
