A Joint Institute.
A joint institute was held at Independence Chapel, Gillam Tp., last Saturday between the teachers of that township and those of White Post Tp., Pulaski Co. In all there were between 40 and 50 persons present, being a good representation from both counties. Among the visitors from a distance were, Prof. Reed, Supt. of Winamao Schools, Co. Supt. Reddiok, of Winamao and Co. Supt. Hamilton of Rensselaer. The forenoon was taken up by the discussion of Plato, Book VI & VII of the Republic. . At noon Trustee A. W. Prevo requested that we follow him. The institute decided to follow his lead without fear. After a short journey to a neighboring houso wo found that a sumptuous dinner had been provided by the trustee and his teachers. Having dope ample justice to turkey, chicken, angel's food, devil’s food and many other kinds of foods, we made our way back to the Chapel. Since Prof. Roed was accused of not letting anything pass him at
the table, the Institute thought he was more, able for the task of the afternoon than anyone else so we gave the principal part of our time and our attention to his very interesting talk on School Discipline. This was followed by a general discussion in which Mr. Reddick, L. H. Hamilton, J. R. Guild, A. WPrevo and others took part. The visiting teachers and friends then extended a vote of thanks to the Gillam people for their kindness and hospitality. Everybody went home feeling it was good to be there.
