Called a Bluff.
The Grand Rapids Evening Press on Saturday called a bluff. The paper editorially stated Thursday that any man in Grand Rapids who wanted work could get it. About eighty men marched to the office Saturday morning with banners flying and presented resolutions remonstrating against this cheerful statement of industrial conditions and represented themselves out of employment. The paper immediately called up the city marshal and, getting permission, sent for wagons and shovels and invited all who wanted jobs at $1.25 a day shoveling snow to fall in. About thirty responded and the other disappeared before operations were begun.
