Rensselaer Semi-Weekly Republican, Volume 19, Number 46, Rensselaer, Jasper County, 11 February 1898 — To Gravel Road Users. [ARTICLE]

To Gravel Road Users.

Just now the gravel roads leading into town are in a specially soft condition, and certain to be greatly damaged by heavy hauling. At such times as this the law forbids loads on gravel roads greater than 1,600 ’ pounds on narrow tired wagons, and 2,000 pounds on broad tires. In other places it has recently been found necessary to prosecute and fine parties for violating this law, before the proper attention was paid to it, and it is not unlikely that something of the kind will soon happen here. Superintendent Woodworth is watching for offenders and has-several other persons doing the same thing, and abusers of the roads are likely to be brought up with a short turn if they do not desist.
