The Hordemaii Horse Thief Proves To Be One of The Family. Friday afternoon, when Sheriff Reed reached Dyer with a warrant to bring back . the man arrested there with Peter Hordeman's horse and buggy, he was much surprised to find that the party was non? other than Joe Hordeman, one of the old man’s sons. No member of the family was with the sheriff when he went to Dyer, but as it happened John Hordeman, a brother of the arrested man, had been at Chicago looking for the thief, and was on the same train on which his brother was brought back, in charge of the sheriff. Joe Hordemrii is understood to have been pretty wild and has not been living at home for some time. He recently finished a term of service in the regular armj? and has since been staying in Chicago. Ho will not say much about his bad break, but. only that he has been sick and out of work and that his father had paid no attention to letters asking for money, and he therefore concluded to help himself out of the old man’s property, by taking’ the horse and Jiuggy. - The reward of SSO which was offered was placed in Sheriff Reed's hands and paid over to the, parties at Dyer who made the arrest. Mr. and Mrs. Hordeman, the young man’s parents, are very estimable people, well known and greatly respected by everybody, and this bad break on the part.of their son will be a great grief to them. The young man has already been indicted under the name of John Doe. Whether the prosecution against him will be pushed remains to be seen. It would scarcely seem likely that the relations would wish to push the case, and it is possible that in case they wish to forgive the offense, the court may accept the young fellow’s plea that he thought he was only taking what ought to have been given him, and let him off. But what the cdijrt will do also remains to be seen, •‘tt is a very unfortunate affair, in any case, and especially on account of the young man's parents.
