A Regiment of Infantry.
A regiment of infantry and accompanying wagon train are to march across Jasper* county some time in the future. County Surveyor J. E. Alter has just received two letters in regard to the matter, one of which is here copied. Reg’t’l Headquarters Ist Regt STC. Tacoma, Washington. Deo., 3, ’97. County Surveyor Jasper Co. Sir:—Herewith respectfully make application for corrected sectional road map of Jasper Co. especially, and other counties of your state which may be at your disposal. Will move a regiment of infantry and wagon train through your county in route between Tacoma, Washington and New York City, therefore it is absolutely necessary that I have thoroughly in mind all changes made recently in the road together with an accurate knowledge of the condition of the bridges and fords. Would respectfully request that you answer the enclosed questions and return slip together with sectional road map. Respectfully your obedient servant, C. R. Oakfokd, Col. Commanding Dep’t. S. T. C.
