GAGE’S ESTIMATES.
Appropriations for the Service of theFiscal Year Ending June 30, ’9O. Secretary Gage has transmitted to Congress the estimates of appropriations required for the service of the fiscal yearending June 30, 1899, as furnished by the several executive departments. The total amount called for by the estimates is $402,647,885, which is about $32,000,00p in excess of the appropriations for 1898, including deficiencies and miscellaneous, -and about $41,000,000 more than the estimates for 1898. The total postal service deficiency is estimated at $6,048,112. The Secretary of the Interior asks for SIIO,OOO to aid in the protection of timber on public lands, and $75,000 for the care, etc., of forest reserves. Gen. Nelson G.
