Turkeys Without End.
Monday began the delivery of Christmas turkeys at McDonald’s poultry house, on Front street. From early morn till after six o’clock at night, a steady stream of wagons loaded with turkeys unloaded at his place. Seldom during the entire day, were there less than ten to fifteen teams waiting their turn to unload their turkeys. Inside the building, sheds and yards from 40 to 50 men were at work. Carrying, weighing, kill, ing, picking and packing turkeys. Monday the total number handled was about 2000 birds. Tuesday the number was not so “ very many less, and the delivery will continue all the week, as Mr. McDonald’s Christmas orders aggregate 7000 turkeys. B. S. Fendig’s poultry house and yards, is also a very busy scene and a number of wagons are usually unloading turkeys and other poultry. He is taking all kinds of poultry but of turkeys alone hife purchases during the week will reach several thousands. This turkey trade is a pretty big thing for Rensselaer and brings a good deal of money here, as turkeys are brought herefrom miles around. From far beyond neighboring towns, in fact.
