The County Commissioners.
The County Commissioners met in regular December session Monday afternoon. The term of office of Hon. Dexter R. Jones, commissioner from the Third district, having expired, Hon. Frederick Way mire, of Jordan Tp., the commissioners elect, appeared and took the oath of office, and became a member of the Board. Organization was effected by re-electing Hon. A. Halleck president of the Board. The James B. Foley ditch matter, a petition for a joint ditch in Pulaski and Jasper counties, was considered, and viewers for Jasper Co. appointed. They are J. F. Warren, Frances M. Parker and Felix French. Tuesday morning was begun the hearing of the application of Geo. A. Strickfaden for a saloon license in the first ward of Rensselaer. Remonstrance was made over the old law. It is alleged that the application shonld have been filed
earlier, also that the location of proposed saloon will be objectionable,- as being too near to the business portion of the town. Also the personal fitness of the applicant to be entrusted with the sale of intoxicating liquors, is attacked. It being alleged that he is a professional bettor and gambler. Chas. A. Gundy, of Fair Oaks, was granted a saloon license, without opposition.
