The Coming Sugar Beet Convention.
Tuesday, Dec. 7, is the date of a sugar beet convention to be held at North Judson. It is called the Kankakee Valley Sugar Beet Convention, by reason of being gotten up by gentlemen interested in lands along or near the Kankakee river. The object is to discuss the raising of sugar beets as an
industry, and the advisability of locating a beet sugar factory. There will be sessions of the meeting forenoon, afternoon and evening. Governor Mount is to be present, as are also Chemist H. A. Huston of Purdue and other men posted in the premises. The surgar beet industry is attracting muoh attention just now, and this convention will be an excellent place to get better acquainted with it. The soil of Starke Co. has been thoroughly tested this year, for sugar beets, and found to be extremely well adapted for them. As the soil of the northern half of Jasper Co. is much like that of Starke, it is evident that, that too is right in the sugar beet belt. The people of that section ought to take a lively interest in this whole sugar beet matter, and to begin by attending the North Judson meeting.
