Rensselaer Semi-Weekly Republican, Volume 19, Number 25, Rensselaer, Jasper County, 30 November 1897 — The Railroad Meeting At Remington. [ARTICLE]
The Railroad Meeting At Remington.
Quite an enthusiastic meeting was held at Durand Hall last Tuesday evening. Jerome Biddle was elected chairman and Ira W. Yeoman Sect’y. Hon. Robt. Parker was called upon to give a report of the recent meeting he attended at Winamac which he did in a very interesting way. It seems that Monticello is making a strong fight for and in case it should get it it will go jjist far enough south of Remington to cut off a big slice of her trade.
A committee j was appointed to solicit funds for the preliminary survey which the company ask to be done, and about twenty of the best citizens came forward and subscribed to it without any solicitation whatever. Another committee was appointed to look after the best right of way. If Rensselaer and Remington will join hands in this matter we can beat Monticello on the grounds of more business and less expense in building the road. One thing is certain Remington is thoroughly aroused about this matter and her part of the work will be done. Meeting adjourned to meet Dec. 7th at Majors Hall.
