CHRISTMAS AT DAWSON.
An Oregon Man Expects to Make SIOO- - 000 in Holiday Dinners. Mr. Charles H, Vest of Portland, Ore., has started for Alaska on a remarkable venture. He intends to furnish the people of Dawson with Christinas dinners and at the same time make his fortune. Mr. Vest’s transportation outfit consisted of 28 dogs and 10 sleds. He has five helpers. His merchandise consists of 3,843 dozen eggs, 1% tons of dressed poultry and SSO worth of oysters. The eggs were carefully broken and placed in cans, six to the can, and then frozen solid. The poultry and ysters were likewise put through the freezing psocess, and until the steamer sails will remain in the cold storage warehouse. The steamer has a refrigerator room, where the stuff will oe stowed, and after reaching Dyca no precaution will he necessary. Mr. Vest, on reaching Dawson, expects to sell his poultry for $5 a pound and the oysters for 100 times what they cost him. Datest Dawson quotations on eggs were $lB per Uozen, and by Christmas, Mr. Vest believes, they will fetch $35 a dozen. He hopes to realize SIOO,OOO on the speculation.
