Rensselaer Semi-Weekly Republican, Volume 19, Number 22, Rensselaer, Jasper County, 19 November 1897 — It Was Eight To Four. [ARTICLE]
It Was Eight To Four.
The captain of the Crown Point foot ball team has written to Manager Murray putting up a terrible roar because of somebody’s mistake in telegraphing to Chicago that the score in the late foot ball game was 20 to 4 in favor of Rensselaer. They even object to the score of 14 to 4 which was reported in The Republican. It seems that after the last score of six points was made that Crown Point set up a claim that it was made after time. Time had not been called however, and our boys were therefore justly entitled to the last 6 points, under the rules; but by the liberality of Capt. Marshall it was agreed that the 6 points should not be counted, and that the score should be 8 to 4, a fact which our reporter was not informed of. Therefore let it be recorded that the Rensselaer-Crown Point foot ball score was 8 to 4, in favor of Rensselaer. Let it be further recorded that had Crown Point made the extra score of six points, after time was up but not called, they would have been pretty mighty sure to have hung on to it.
