The J ones Boys Take a Sneak.
Jailor Joyner has lost two of his star boarders. Charles and John Jones, serving a jail sentence for stealing lap robe, took a sneak Saturday evening, and their warm corners in the jail corriders will know their dear forms no more. Mr. Joyner took them out to do chores, as was his custom, considering them, to some extent, as trusties. He sent them into the jail stable to curry the horses, and when he went to look for them they were gone, and the most diligent search failed to find any track of the route they had taken. He suspects they have pulled out for Illinois, as he has learned from other prisoners that they have been talking of making a break and getting over the state line, in case some of their “d—n relations” as they called them, should come in to see them and put up some cash, and perhaps be ready with a rig. A man and woman called to see them Saturday and made quite a visit. Possibly they were the relations the Joneses were looking for.
They had about 35 days yet to serve, and while they well deserved the punishment the court inflicted, their escape is really not a bad thing, as it will not only save the county the expense of keeping them, but escaping in the way they have, they will be likely to stay out of the county hereafter; and their room is much more desirable than their presence. Later: Just as we go to press Marshal McGown informs us that the Jones boys have been arrested at Slieldon.
