The Circuit Court.
A case that attracted a good deal of interest was a suit brought by Wallace Robinson against the last Republican County Central Committee, for money claimed to be due on lumber used in the socalled Republican tabernacle, erected in Rensselaer during the political campaign of 1896. The case was tried by the court who found from the evidence that B. F. Ferguson, chairman of the said committee had contracted for the lumber in the first place, and disposed of it after the campaign was over, acting in his individual capacity, and that the Central Committee was not liable in the matter. Judgment was therefore rendered against Mr. Ferguson individually for sllß, which was I only $5 less than the full amount I sued for. Albert Ropp, the party who looted Andy Yeoman's barn of two lap robes, set of sleigh bells, a pair of buggy shafts and a whip, came [into court Saturday and plead guilty. He was sentenced to one year in the reformatory at Jeffersonville, a fine of $lO and disfranchised for two years. John Easter, who was heretofore thought a fit subject for the reformatory, was found, on investigation, to be too old for that institution and his sentence, was changed to
: one year in the penitentiary at j Michigan City. Eben Spinney, from up north, was granted a divorce from Nettie Spinney. They were married at Hoopeston, 111., Oct. 10. 1890, and on Nov. Ist 1894, she abandoned him and lias, refused to live with him ever since. They have no children. Daisy E. Condra also pulled out her divorce decree. She married William Edison Condra, in Rens- ' selaer. Apr. 17, 1892. Their separation occured June - 10, 1897, She charged cruel and inhuman treatment, such as striking and kicking her, threatening to kill etc. They have one child, a four year old boy, which by desire of the plaintiff, the defendant is given the custody of. The records do not show that her maiden name of Daisy E. Thornton was restored, although that was asked for in her complaint. The defendant, Condra, lived at Monon, when last heard from.
