Money Saved The State.
The state’s fiscal year closed Saturday and the auditor finds that a number of large balances of appropriations made by the last legislature will be turned back into the state treasury. This is a thing that has been so rare in the past that no instance can be recalled, the institutions always using the entire appropriations. The sayings to the state will be in excess of SIOO,OOO. The officials attribute it to the new law passed at the last session providing that the auditor shall not pay out any money except upon vouchers showing that it had been actually expended. Some of the heads of the institutions thought the law was a reflection upon their honesty and protested against it, but the auditor has enforced it rigorously.
