Grading and Cement Walks Contracts.

The county commissioners received bids, Thursday afternoon, for filling and grading the court house yard, for making the cement walks in and around the same, and for stone coping around the square. It is proposed to build an eight foot street walk around the three sides where now there is none, while the 8 foot walk now on Washington street will be made 8 feet wider. A 16 foot walk will go up to the front entrance, and 13 fool walks from the west and south entrances. The walk from the east entrance will be 8 feet wide. Besides this there will be a 6 foot walk entirely around the building, inside the yard, and not far from the building. The grading and filling will include the leveling down of the material already in the square and the filling of the same from a foot on the outside to three feet at the building, a gradual and uniform slope to extend from the building to the sidewalks.

The stone coping, which is to replace the iron fence now being removed, is to be of dressed stone, 29 inches high and 1-1 inches wide. The cement walks are to be much better made and presumably more lasting than the ordinary walks. The filling is to be 24 inches deep, while the cement portion is to be one inch thick, and composed qf equal parts of best cement and crushed granite gravel. The contract for all the work was let toHeinzmann Bros.
