Coming Elections.

Tuesday all the fall elections for 1897 will occur. Twelve different states have contests on of more or

less impoitance. These are in Ohio, New York, Virginia, lowa, Pennsylvania, Kentucky, Maryland, Colorado, Nebraska and Massachusetts. In Maryland and Ohio the legislature is to be chosen and a United States senator elected. In New York the contest for the control of Greater New York overshadows everything else. In Massachusetts, Ohio, Virginia and lowa, governors will be elected, while Kentucky elects a clerk of the court of appeals, Pennsylvania a state treasurer and auditor, Ne" braska a judge of the supreme court and regent of the university, and Colorado elects a chief justice. There are various municipal elections in these states, which also attract much attention.
