The Monon Don't Want It.
"The Monon does not appear at all anxious to close that much discussed deal with the Midland people," says the Wabash Tribune: “Harry Crawford is very anxious that it should be consummated; owing to the hard times of the last year or two, many farmers have been unable to pay the rent for the ground used as truck patches along the right of way. A big damage suit is threatened over near Lebanon because of the semi annual passage of a hand car last
August which instantly killed a fine Buff Cochin hen which had selected the weeds between the rails as a suitable place to set. Environed by such threatening embarrassments, no wonder Mr. Crawford desires to make some change. The Monon people regard the property with disfavor; they were under the impression that the six hand cars used on the system were in good repair and when they discovered that there were missing brakes, taps, etc., they wisely concluded not to make the purchase. Mr. Crawford must still figure as a bloated railroad magnate.’"
