The City Council.
Monday night was regular council meeting night. ~ The mayor was authorized to subscribe for 100 shares of the capital stock of the Rensselaer Water, Light and Power Co., at SIOO a share, for which city bonds to the amount of SIO,OOO are to be issued. The waterworks committee was directed to investigate the advisability of making certain changes in the location of some of the mains. Also to investigate as to the cost of enough additional 4 inch mains to run down the alleys back of the four principal business blocks. In order that the business houses on Washington St. can get water into their buildings without digging the street and gutters all up to do it. Dr. S. C. Johnson was appointed city health officer, his duties to begin at once. Alleged cases of scarlet fever in families which are sending children to school, was the immediate cause of the appointment of a city health officer. The railroad company was ordered to build a vitrified brick crossing at Forest street.
