Get Ready For Arbor Day.

The 29th of this month is Arbor Day and the occasion should be made one of more general observance than ever before by the planting of trees and appropriate exercises. In the prairie states of the west Arbor Day became an

annual occasion to which great attention is paid, and the once bare plains have begun to be ornamented with groves and promising growths of forests. In this part of the country where we have been by far too unmindful of the rapidity with which the country is being denuded of its trees, it has but little significance and such observance as it receives is almost solely in the public schools. This, too is rather more of a sentimental than practical kind, consisting too much of indoor exercises and too little of the planting of trees for which the day was set apart. Let us have a more general observance of the occasion, and let those who have few or no trees about their premises honor the day properly.
