Bro. Walker Thinks a Year’s Subscription Will Soothe His Feelings.
Wolcott Enterprise. Mr. B. F. Gifford, owner of the gieat tract of land in Jasper county that bears his name, takes exceptions to the article in this columns a couple of weeks ago regarding the deplorable condition of some of his tenants. The item was given as told by a man who bears a reputation for truthfulness and veracity, and was published as a bit of news, without even a hint that the landlord was in the least to blame. He, however, in a letter to the Rensselaer Republican, appears to be offended- He admits that the crops were injured by the late spring rains, early frosts and fire, and these were the reasons given in the item. There was no occasion for him to mention the Enterprise whatever in his article, unless the blame for the unfavorable weather and fires can be attached to him. Whatever other papers have said of him, this paper has nothing to do with, and now to make amends for his criticism, we think he ought to send a dollar for a year’s subscription to the Enterprise.
