On The Gridiron.
Battle Ground and Rensselaer will battle for supremacy on the foot ball grounds at the .Stock Farm next Friday afternoon. Rensselaer will open the season with a team averaging 163 pounds. Every man has been working hard, and the team is in good condition. There are six of last year’s players in the line up, and the other positions have been greatly improved by stronger men. Under careful coaching and good thinking they have a numof new plays, which are sure ground gainers, and will put up a strong game against the Battle Ground team, which is superior in weight, and has had the advantage of the coaching of Jamison, .the crack full back of the west, and who is also coaching the foot ball team of Purdue University at the present time. Nevertheless with all these advantages} the brawny boys from the Iroquois with their grit and determination will battle for the victory which will surely be theirs (if they get it.)
With a little encouragement Rensselaer had ought to have one of the best teams in northern Indiana this season. The line up weights are as follows: Right guard, Ball: 185 lbs “ tackle, Collins; 158 “ “ end, Wood worth; ....155 “ Center, Lakey : .160 “ Left guard, Kohler; 180 “ “ tackle, Manley; 180 “ “ end, Wright; ...... .140 “ Right half-back Middleton 165 “ Left half-back, Meyers; .. .180 “ Full-back, Brinley; 158 “ Substitutes, Tucker and Rhoades. H We might make special mention of Meyers, Manley and Middleton, who are all old foot ball players, and will be a great strength in leading our boys to victory.
