Henry Whitaker, of Hammond, was in town a few days last week. John Graves transacted business in Kentland last Thursday. B. J. Gifford, of Kankakee, was in town last Thursday. A little child of Charley Yon, living near Center school house, died with diphtheria Saturday morning. Simon Fendig went to Rensselaer Sunday. Jud Hayden, of Lowell, was through this part of the country last week trying to buy draft horses for the eastern market. Mrs, S. H. Petrie and children are visiting relatives at Lowell this week. John Graves drove to Rensselaer Sunday. Mrs. Sarah Holsworth who has been spending the summer in Nebraska returned home last Friday. John Whitaker was in Rensselaer Monday. * J Miss Lenna Whitaker is reported quite sick. A nice shower of rain visited this locality Monday afternoon. Everybody was smiling. A deaf and dumb jeweler with his wife and -child are stopping at the Eagle Hotel. He claims to be an expert at the business, he is also quite an oddity for while being deaf and dumb he belongs to three or four secret societies.
