Rensselaer Semi-Weekly Republican, Volume 19, Number 8, Rensselaer, Jasper County, 1 October 1897 — The Waterworks Ordinance. [ARTICLE]
The Waterworks Ordinance.
The 6ity Council at their meeting last night, practically completed all the preliminary work connected with the installation of a waterworks plant, and active work upon the same is expected to begin not later than next week. J. W. Ladd, representing the contractors was present, and in conjunction with him the plans and specifications were gone over, item by item and paragraph by paragraph, and everything got into satisfactory shape. The waterworks ordinance, as revised and perfected by the joint labors of the mayor, city attorney, and the attorney of the contractors was adopted. Both specifications and ordinance are of great length, as they necessarily must be. It was expected that the waterworks will be completed by Jan. 15th but the recent burning of the machine shops of the contracting company will probably cause some delay. A committee consisting of Councilmen Alter, Meyers and Spitler was appointed to go to Chicago, Wednesday, to examine the various styles of steam pumps, and to report upon the same, in order the council may make their choice of the kind to be used in these works. The Council will meet again this evening to complete the regular routine work of the session.
