County Correspondence
HANGING GROVE. The Lefler school house is being moved this week to the Bert Josserand farm about 1 mile north of where it formerly stood. Bessie Stewart went to Cincinnati, 0., last week to attend high school. Dave Irle is on the sick list. George Robinsoh had some honey stolen one night last week, he traced the thieves to McCoysburg but has not yet made any arrests. George Newman went to Chicago Sunday.
WHEATFIELD ITEMS.
John Whitaker has been on the siek list for a few days. Wm. McNeil has purchased the livery barn property, also the propertv occupied by Heath's barber shop. Quite a number attended a dance at Stoutsburg Saturday night. Emory Smith, of Lowell, Sundayed at S. H, Petrie’s. John Akers is reported quite sick. Mrs. E. W. Phelps was callad to Denham, Ind., Friday. Her son Charley is quite sick at that place. Dan Fairchilds, of DeMotte, was ia town Monday. Mrs. A. Barlow is on the sick list. Mr, Beeman our school teacher drove to Valparaiso last Saturday. . J. W. Tilton has moved in the Bentley property.
P. E. Davis drove; to Rensselaer last Tuesday. Orange Heath fe taking in the street fair at Francesville; this week. Henry Ballard, of Medaryville, drove in town Tuesday. Ed Byers, who went to Tennessee with the Davis boys last spring, came home Tuesday, Charley Jones, a young farmer from over by the river, came in town Tuesday, and loaded up with Wheatfield tanglefoot. Marshal Brown landed him in the cooler, where he laid until evening, when he was before Justice Swisher and given a fine of one dollar and costs, in all $12.70. Sunday night about 12 o’clock the Columbian Hotel near the C. & E. I. Depot, was discovered to be on fire. The fire had gained such headway that it was impossible to save anything The building and all of its contents were destroyed. Some of the boarders barely escaped in their night clothes. The Hotel was run bv the Widow Smith who. . lost all she had. The origin of the fire is unknown.
Weekly Weather and Crop Bulletin.
Fair weather continued, with no rain. Frost during several nights did injury to some corn fodder, late tomatoes and tender plants. Most corn was safe from frost, and it is nearly all cut and in shock; the crop is not as good as last year. Late tomatoes were hurt by frost. The potato crop is poor. Some buckwheat was injured by frost. [ Apples will make only a fair crop; . in some orchards the crop is poor. ; Early-sown wheat is not doing well; it is coming up unevenly; seeding progressed slowly; farmers can not wait much longer for rain, and I much seeding is being done in I dusty fields. Clover hulling con--1 tinues, with good crops in most ; localities; in some sections hulling ;is done. Pasturage is dry, and ■ stock is being fed. Hog cholera i prevails in Pulaski County; some I farmers have lost as many as 30 I head.

Richmond (Va.) Times. At Centerville, Ky., the other day. Capt. J. R. Hindman, nominee of the Sound Money Democracy of that Slate for the position of clerk of the Court of Appeals, got into an argument with a silver man, who claimed that good times did not prevail. “Why don’t you admit that wheat is high?” he was asked. “Yes,” he answered. “And are not cattle high?’’ “Yes.” “And is not tobacco high?” “Yes.” “Is not corn high?" “Yes," was his reply. “Are not hogs high?" “Yes,” drawled the silver man, “but green beans is selling awful low: a farmer sold me a peck for a dime today!” *
