Rensselaer Semi-Weekly Republican, Volume 19, Number 6, Rensselaer, Jasper County, 24 September 1897 — The City Council. [ARTICLE]
The City Council.
The City Council, at their special session last night, appointed Burgess Dillon as deputy marshal. He will fill the place of city marshal and night police in the absence or sickness of the regular oificals, and at their expense. He is clothed with the same police powers as the regular marshal. Health officer Alter reported that he had sampled the odors of Makemself ditch, and thought it ought to be cleaned out. The sewer committee was directed to have it done. J. W. Ladd, the waterworks man and his attorney sent word they could not come and another special meeting will be held tonight, to meet them and to close up the waterworks contract and adopt a waterworks ordinance. ? ~
